Revenue of the global leading aerospace and defense manufacturers 2020

In the aerospace and defense manufacturing industry, Boeing outperformed all competitors, including its closest rival, Airbus. Airbus was renamed from European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company, or EADS. In 2019, Boeing generated over 69 billion U.S. dollars in revenue.

Military aircraft and helicopter production

Around the globe, countries continue to invest in their military armament heavily. For instance, between 2019 and 2029, UK Armed Forces plan to spend on military aircraft around 30 billion British pounds. During the same period, the sales in the global military helicopter market is forecasted to decline by five billion U.S. dollars, down to approximately 24 billion U.S. dollars. Nonetheless, the size of the military helicopter market is expected to grow steady until 2027. In addition to the helicopters, there are also various military aircraft utilized by air forces to perform required tasks. Although Boeing held the leading market position in the aerospace and defense manufacturing industry, Boeing’s sales of military aircraft declined slightly between 2007 and 2016, down to 12.5 billion U.S. dollars.

Aerospace defense

As long as there is a multitude of political and economic conflicts, countries or organizations will continue ordering and investing in their defense capacity. In 2019, there were around 14,596 combat aircraft listed in military inventories worldwide. F-16 was the most deployed combat aircraft in that period. Beside military aircraft, there are also a multitude types of missiles manufactured utilized to protect air space of a territory, for instance, the manufacturer MBDA. MBDA is a pan-European manufacturer of missiles and missile systems for air, land and sea defense. It is a joint venture of Airbus, BAE Systems and Leonardo. Between 2013 and 2019, MBDA’s annual revenue went up remarkably, reaching 3.7 billion euros in 2019. During that same period, the annual order backlog of MBDA increased by five billion euros, up to 17.5 billion euros in 2019.
