This statistic represents worldwide sales in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) antivirals from 2008 to 2012, by region. In 2011, the Americas accounted for 10.8 billion U.S. dollars in HIV antiviral sales, Europe 5.6 billion U.S. dollars, and Asia, Australasia, and Africa 1.3 billion U.S. dollars. In 2013, about 34 million people around the world were suffering from HIV but due to advances in medication, it is considered a manageable chronic condition. Although, antiretroviral therapy has made living with HIV much more manageable, there are many in the developing world that still have no access to sufficient medical treatment.
