Bank and building societies loan write-offs in United Kingdom from 2012-2018 This statistic illustrates the value of loan write-offs for banks and building societies in the United Kingdom (UK) from the first quarter of 2013 to the third quarter of 2018. It can be seen that the total value of loan write-offs decreased overall during this period, reaching a value of 1.1 billion British pounds as of the third quarter of 2018. This was a decrease of nearly 1.7 billion British pounds in comparison to the first quarter of 2013, when over 2.8 billion British pounds of loan write-offs were recorded by banks and building societies. Although this was the case, the largest value of loan write-offs were recorded in the fourth quarter of 2014, a total of almost 3.64 trillion British pounds.
