
Mexican rail freight by commodity type 2015-2021
In 2021, Mexican railroads transported some 62,100 carloads of petroleum and petroleum products, up from 45,800 a year earlier. Metallic ores and metals were the largest commodity hauled by rail freight, growing to over 260,800 carloads. Motor vehicles and parts, formerly the leading commodity, started a slow recovery in 2021, rising by around 4.1 percent to 196,300 carloads.
