Netherlands: gross profit margin of DIY stores 2016-2022

As of 2022, the gross profit margin of DIY stores in the Netherlands amounted to some 38 percent. It is a slight increase compared to 2018 when the margin totaled some 37 percent. Overall, the gross profit margin of Dutch DIY stores has stayed quite consistent over the years. The total shop floor area of DIY retail stores in the Netherlands increased in the period between 2015 to 2020. In 2015, the shop floor area amounted to approximately 2.36 million square meters, whereas by 2019 it had increased to 2.52 million square meters. By 2022, however, the total shop floor area of such stores dropped back down to roughly 2.45 million square meters.

Maxeda DIY Group

Maxeda DIY Group (formally Vendex KBB) is a Dutch retail group operating various do-it-yourself stores in Belgium, Netherlands, and Luxembourg. The number of stores of Maxeda amounted to some 340 in these countries in 2021. From these stores, roughly 190 were Praxis stores in the Netherlands, whereas Belgium and Luxembourg had about 140 Brico DIY stores.

Leading DIY stores

Generating billions of euros every single year, the two largest DIY retailers in Europe were Groupe Adeo and Kingfisher. Groupe Adeo, which is headquartered in France, generated over 25 billion euros' worth of revenue in 2021, while the UK-based Kingfisher made over 15 billion that same year.
