Number of electric vehicle charging stations in Hungary by type for 2013-2021

This statistic shows the number of different types of charging stations for plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) in Hungary in the years 2013 through to 2021. During the period recorded here, Hungary has seen an increase in the available infrastructure for charging PEVs. There were 2,130 PEV chargers in Hungary as of 2021.

Electric vehicles in Hungary 

Each year more and more electric vehicles are registered in Hungary. However, their popularity is still on the rise. The stock of electric vehicles is expected to continue to grow, as the Hungarian government has taken several steps in order to promote e-mobility, such as launching tenders to support the purchase of electric vehicles. As of 2021, the stock of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) in the country amounted to over 4.6 thousand. As for battery electric vehicles (BEV) in Hungary, their number reached over six thousand in the same year.

Biofuel consumption in Hungary 

Biofuels are widely used in the transportation sector in Hungary, as they are a renewable and good alternative for fossil fuels that also contribute to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. The Hungarian transport sector’s most commonly used biofuel is biodiesel, as in 2019, the consumption amounted to 145,100 metric tons of oil equivalent.
