As in the rest of the world, electronic devices play a major role in Brazilians’ everyday life, be it smartphones, laptops, TVs, or headphones. Considered as a growing technology hub for several years, Brazil has quickly developed in terms of digital transformation and the consumer electronics market is a key part of this process. In 2024, the consumer electronics market in the Latin American country was forecast to generate over 35 billion U.S. dollars in revenue, with telephony being the most profitable segment.
Smartphones and tablets among the most popular consumer electronics devices
Brazil is said to be one of the five countries with the highest number of smartphone users. In the coming years, such a trend will not go away, with the number of Brazilian smartphone users set to increase further. For instance, by 2029, 97 percent of the population is forecast to use a smartphone. In 2023, Samsung was the leading smartphone vendor, dominating almost 40 percent of the market. Samsung was a major player also in the tablet industry, which is forecast to record a revenue of over one billion U.S. dollars in 2024.From older TVs to newer XR devices
Other popular electronic devices among consumers are TVs, with over 10 million LCD TVs sold in 2023 in the Latin American country, and wearables, including smartwatches and fitness trackers. In 2024, Samsung and Apple were the leading smartwatch vendors in Brazil. Moreover, as the metaverse gains in popularity, immersive technology devices are being developed, such as augmented reality (AR) glasses and virtual reality (VR) headsets. In Brazil, these markets are forecast to grow in the near future, with VR headsets expected to generate a revenue of around 130 million U.S. dollars in 2024.Grupo Casas Bahia: the leading consumer electronics retailer in Brazil
One of the most famous retail companies in Brazil is Grupo Casas Bahia, formerly Via S.A, specializing in consumer electronics and household appliances. In the last years, Casas Bahia's net revenue experienced fluctuations, reaching roughly 30 billion Brazilian reals, or 5.5 billion U.S. dollars, in 2023.
