On May 25, 2020, George Floyd was murdered during an arrest in Minneapolis, United States. The case was vastly covered by the media around the globe and ignited a series of protests against police brutality and racism. A survey carried out in June 2020 revealed that more than nine out of ten respondents in Brazil had heard about the George Floyd case. The survey also showed that over 80 percent of them believed similar cases were frequent in the Portuguese speaking country, with half having already heard about such cases.
