Share of tourism spending in leading global travel markets 2021, by type
When comparing leisure and business travel spending across the globe, leisure tourism spending contributed the highest amount to GDP across the leading travel and tourism markets worldwide. In the United States, which reported the highest total contribution of travel and tourism to GDP, leisure travel accounted for 65 percent of tourism spending in 2021. In China, which placed second on the list, leisure travel represented 82 percent of total travel and tourism spending.
