In 32 countries worldwide, more than half of both women and men believe that equality between men and women will be achieved within their lifetime. Interestingly, the share was highest in the Untied Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, two countries usually not associated with high levels of gender equality. On the other hand, people were most pessimistic in the East Asian countries Japan and South Korea. In the former, only 21 percent of women believed that gender equality will be achieved within their lifetime.
