NATO members timeline 2022

As of 2022, there are 30 member states in NATO, the western military alliance formed in the aftermath of World War Two. The initial founding members of NATO included Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and the United States. After eight stages of enlargement, the alliance has more than doubled in size, with the largest enlargement occuring in 2004, when the alliance welcomed seven new countries. North Macedonia was the most recent state to join NATO in 2020, bringing the alliance to its current strength of 30 states.
