
Leading causes of death in Nicaragua 2019, by mortality rate
Ischaemic heart disease was the leading cause of death in Nicaragua in 2019. The condition, also known as coronary heart disease, caused nearly 90 deaths per 100,000 population. Kidney diseases were the second major cause of death reported that year, with a mortality rate of roughly 54 deaths per 100,000 people. Other important causes of death in the Central American country were strokes and diabetes mellitus.
