Share of clothing made with synthetics from selected brands worldwide 2021
Synthetic fibers are man-made fibers, such as polyester and nylon, usually from fossil fuels. They are far less bio-degradable than natural fibers and are a source of microplastics. Of the researched brands, boohoo had the highest percentage of clothes containing synthetics, with 85 percent of their total collection. The luxury brands, Louis Vuitton and Gucci, had a much smaller share of synthetic garments than the fast fashion and high street brands.
