According to a survey from May 2022, around 78 percent of Chinese respondents said they used horizontal e-commerce platforms to buy groceries in the past month. In comparison, an overwhelming 92 percent of respondents from Shanghai said they purchased groceries in WeChat groups in May 2022, when the metropolis experienced a lockdown.
