In financial year 2022, issuance of sovereign gold bonds in India surged up to around 130 billion Indian rupees. This was a significant increase from around 13 billion rupees worth of issuance in the financial year 2016. Sovereign gold bonds, originally introduced as an alternative to physical gold, are slowly gaining traction in India.
