News avoidance in selected countries worldwide 2017-2022
The share of news consumers who actively try to avoid news grew in several markets between 2017 and 2022. Active news avoidance was most common in Brazil, where the share of respondents saying they did so doubled in the given time period, rising from 27 percent to 54 percent. A similar trend can be seen in the United Kingdom. Respondents least likely to report active news avoidance were based in Denmark, Finland, and Japan, but again, the share who did so was higher in 2022 than in previous years.
