Age distribution of breast augmentations in the U.S. in 2023
Breast augmentation is a popular cosmetic procedure in the United States, with women aged 30-39 accounting for over a third of the 304,000 operations performed in 2023. This age group, along with those aged 40-54, comprised two-thirds of all breast implant placements or removals. The concentration of procedures among these age brackets highlights the demand for breast augmentation among women in their prime adult years.
Patient Satisfaction and Procedure Rankings
Breast augmentation consistently ranks as one of the most sought-after cosmetic surgeries in the U.S. In 2023, it was the second most frequently performed surgical cosmetic procedure, trailing only liposuction. The popularity of breast augmentation is matched by high patient satisfaction rates, with up to 95 percent of patients stating they would undergo the procedure again. This level of satisfaction surpasses even that of rhinoplasty, commonly known as a nose job.
Gender Differences and Global Trends
While breast augmentation is predominantly chosen by women, men also seek cosmetic breast procedures, albeit for different reasons. Male patients more commonly opt for breast reduction, making it the second most popular surgical cosmetic procedure among men. On a global scale, breast augmentation ranks as the second most performed surgical cosmetic procedure worldwide, with nearly 1.9 million operations in 2023.
