Indonesia is one of the countries where the Chinese company is most successful. Senior vice president at Xiaomi Corporation, Wang Xiang, wrote on Twitter that the company was the second-most sold smartphone brand in Indonesia. With the help of their exclusive distribution partner Erajaya they were able to further increase their offline sales and support their flagships Redmi and Pocophone F1. By concentrating their brand growth in Indonesia, where the number of smartphone users is estimated to grow to almost 90 million in 2022, Xiaomi has emerged as one of the world's best smartphone manufacturers.
Smartphone market in Indonesia
As several studies show, the Indonesian smartphone market is still on the rise. While some big players such as Huawei and Apple only have plans to invest in the Indonesian smartphone market in the future, Samsung, Xiaomi and Oppo have already started to meet Indonesians’ need to be constantly online. In 2018, the number of social media users in Indonesia amounted to over 80 million and is still expected to grow. With an increasing mobile internet user penetration, as well as increasing online advertising spending, the future for the smartphone market in Indonesia looks promising.
