In 2022, the percentage of road transport in total inland freight transport in Finland increased by 4.3 percentage points (+5.91 percent) compared to 2021. With 77 percent, the percentage of road transport thereby reached its highest value in the observed period. According to Eurostat, road transport is collected based on all movements of vehicles registered in the reporting country and thus further methodological developments and computations were needed to be done by Eurostat for estimating road transport according to the 'territoriality principle'.
The source adds the following information: 'This indicator is aimed at monitoring the dependence of goods transport on each individual mode. The indicator is percentage of road, rail and inland waterways transport in total inland freight transport (in tonne-kilometres).'
