According to a global study held in early 2021, 40.2 percent of journalists believed that press freedom was deteriorating in their country or the country they report on. Meanwhile, a separate study on freedom of the press found that 38 percent of the world's population lived somewhere without any press freedom at all, and 40 percent lived in a country where the press was only partially free.
