French regional elections: causes of abstention 2021

The level of abstention recorded in the first round of regional elections in France was the highest ever recorded. The abstentionists generally claimed that they were unavailable or uninterested, although some also viewed the regional elections as useless.
Those who voted had a different perception, however, claiming those who abstained were not interested in politics, or did not believe that their vote would be useful. The issue of availability on the day also divided these groups, with it being the most-cited answer among those who did not vote, and the least-cited response among those who voted.
