Impact of COVID-19 on domestic leisure travel in Japan 2020-2023, by month
According to a survey conducted in May 2023 in Japan, 82.6 percent of people who planned to go on domestic trips were able to travel as initially planned, despite the persisting presence of the COVID-19 pandemic. On the other hand, the share of people who cancelled plans to travel due to the pandemic amounted to 7.8 percent, reaching a new low, and dipping below the 10 percent mark for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic.
