According to a survey conducted in the United Kingdom in 2021, 91 percent of respondents aged 12 to 15 years had been spoken to about internet safety by a parent. The majority of children and teens across all examined age groups stated that they were informed about online safety by a parent. Respondents were also rather likely to have been spoken to about online safety in school, with 73 percent of users aged between eight and 11 years having been spoken to about internet safety by a teacher. Additionally, around two in 10 respondents aged between 16 to 17 years reported that this topic had received a talk about the topic from the police.
