Weather, climate, and water-related disasters led to a total economic loss of 38.5 billion U.S. dollars in Africa between 1970 and 2019. Additionally, such hazards caused over 731,700 deaths in the continent in the last five decades. The highest economic loss occurred in the period 2010-2019, at 12.5 billion U.S. dollars. During the whole period observed, storms, floods, and droughts had the largest economic impact in Africa.
