The number of consumers in the United States who scan a QR code with their smartphone is expected to grow by 16 million between 2022 and 2025. A forecast from December 2021 predicts this increase, with QR code usage being especially by contactless (tap to pay, proximity) mobile payments as well as the use of QR code to scanning printed publications - such as menus at restaurants or weblinks within retail. As there is no central tracking of this relatively young payment phenomenon, all figures provided on a country-level are estimates.
