Gross electricity production in Europe 1990, by fuel

The total electricity production in the countries that were European Union member countries (as of 2020) amounted to approximately terawatt-hours in 1990. Fossil fuels were the main source of electric energy in these European countries overall as of 1990, with solid fossil fuels accounting for roughly percent of the total electricity mix. Nuclear power was the second-largest electricity source at that time. Among renewable energy sources, hydropower ranked first, with a production of terawatt-hours in that year.
In 2021, the main source of electricity in the EU was nuclear power, followed by gas.
