The value of public construction spending on commercial projects in the United States between 2008 and 2022 have mostly stayed between two and four billion U.S. dollars annually. In 2020, the public sector spent approximately 4.14 billion U.S. dollars on commercial construction projects. The following year, this number had dropped to around 3.67 billion U.S. dollars. In 2022, the largest segment in the U.S. commercial construction put in place of local and state governments were automotive projects.
