Global CO2 emissions from fuel combustion 2018, by country

Global carbon dioxide emissions from fuel combustion totaled 33.5 billion metric tons in 2018. China was the biggest emitter that year, releasing 9.5 billion metric tons of CO2 into the atmosphere from fuel combustion. This accounted for approximately 30 percent of global emissions. The second largest emitter was the United States, having emitted roughly five billion metric tons of CO2.
