In 2014, all fuel types saw year-on-year growth with 110,000 more diesel fuelled cars sold in 2014 than in 2013. It was also a year of increase for alternatively fuelled cars with around 19,000 more cars sold in 2014 than 2013. In 2016, slightly over one million diesel passenger vehicles were registered in the United Kingdom, while almost 70,000 alternatively fuelled passenger vehicles were registered in the same year. In 2017, the amount of all fuel type vehicles increased, however, the number of alternative fuel type cars increased significantly. The number of alternative fuel cars has more than tripled since 2013.
