Non-performing loans ratio in Spain 2005-2017

This statistic presents the ratio of non-performing loans (NLP) to total gross loans in Spain from 2005 to 2017. Non-performing loans are those that are in default, or are close to being in default. Many standard contract terms specify that loans become non-performing after being in default for 90 days, but this can vary. The share of non-performing loans in the country's loan portfolio increased almost steadily until 2013 and at that year reached 9.4 percent. Afterwards it diminished and reached just under 4.5 percent by the end of 2017.
