Central government total tax revenue in Sweden 2007-2017 After a decrease in the central government tax revenue in Sweden in 2009, it increased annually, and reached over two billion Swedish kronor in 2017. The revenues include direct and indirect tax on labor, tax on capital, consumption and tax on imports. Sweden has a relatively high tax ratio, and in 2017, the tax ratio was 44.3 percent of the gross domestic product.
Central government income balance

     During 2017, the central government revenue amounted to around one trillion Swedish kronor, the expenditure amounted to 939.6 billion, and the income balance equaled 61.8 billion Swedish kronor.  

Central government expenditure distribution

   The largest share of the public expenditure in Sweden in 2017 was distributed to social protection and reached 40 percent of the total public expenditure. Social protection covers important functions such as health and childcare, but also social benefits, such as unemployment, social welfare and pensions. The largest share of the public expenditure in Sweden goes to elderly care.
