In 2023, the average number of non-scheduled working hours of employees in Japan amounted to 10 hours per month. In 2020, average monthly overtime hours reached the lowest point of the last 10 years at 9.2 hours. In response to the increasing work stress-related occupational mortality in the country, the Japanese government passed the "Work Style Reform Law" in 2018 to reduce the overtime hours of workers.
