In 2018, the average number of non-scheduled working hours of regular employees in Japan amounted to 10.8 hours per month. In response to the increasing work stress related occupational mortality in the country, the Japanese government passed the "Work Style Reform Law" in 2018 in an effort to reduce the number of non-scheduled hours for workers.
