Average number of monthly overtime hours Japan 2012-2021
In 2021, the average number of non-scheduled working hours of employees in Japan amounted to 9.7 hours per month, a slight increase from a record low of 9.2 hours in the previous year. In response to the increasing work stress-related occupational mortality in the country, the Japanese government passed the "Work Style Reform Law" in 2018 to reduce the overtime hours of workers.
