In 2022, the unemployment rate in Japan stood at around three percent for men and 2.4 percent for women. That year, there were about 1.8 million people who were unemployed despite actively searching for a job.

*Figures are based on the results of supplementary-estimated figures (persons: 2015-census base, rates: 2005-census base). 2011 yearly average results for the whole of Japan were missing due to the damage caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake.

The unemployment rate refers to the percentage of people who seek a job but do not work (unemployed) among all people in the labor force (population aged 15 years and older employed and unemployed).
