The number of outbound holiday trips from Italy decreased sharply in 2020 over the previous year, due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. While the hotel was the most popular travel accommodation for outbound vacationers in 2019, this scenario changed in 2020. That year, Italian outbound vacationers who stayed at homes of relatives or friends took the highest number of trips, namely 1.2 million. Meanwhile, those who stayed at hotels made around 926 thousand trips.

Rented house/rented room include: bed and breakfast.
Other kind of collective facilities include: holiday villages, campsites, marinas, and other collective facilities.
Specialized collective facilities include: residences for physical/beauty treatment, volunteer workcamps and holiday camps, places in means of public transport (couchettes, sleeping cars, etcetera), congress, and conference centers.
