In the financial year of 2018, the retail and consumer products sector across India saw the highest value of mergers and acquisition deals, worth almost 23 billion U.S. dollars. This sector was followed by the metals and mining sector accounting for over 17 billion dollars in merger deals.
Some of the key deals included Walmart Inc's acquisition of Flipkart Group worth 16 billion dollars in the retail and consumer products segment, as well as the seven billion dollar buyout of Essar Steel India in the metals and mining segment.
