Brazil: cases of chikungunya 2017-2020 by region
In 2020, a total of 82,419 probable cases of chikungunya virus were reported in Brazil, the lowest number recorded since the beginning of the indicated period. From this total, over 50,000 of them occurred in the northeast region of the country. This represents nearly 61 percent of all country cases concentrated in this region. Meanwhile, the southeast region had a 77 percent decrease in probable cases in comparison to the previous year. Moreover, the northeast region also suffered the highest number of deaths due to the chikungunya virus that year.
