Household plastics packaging collection rate in the United Kingdom 2021, by country
Wales had the highest collection rate of household plastics packaging across the United Kingdom in 2021, at some 56 percent. In comparison, the collection rate in Scotland was just 35 percent – the lowest in the UK. That year, about 79 percent of household plastic bottles placed on the market in Wales were collected for recycling. Meanwhile, the collection rate for plastic films and flexibles remained low in all UK countries. It was estimated that 606,000 metric tons of plastics packaging were collected for recycling from UK households in 2021.
