Supplementary notes

Beer includes fermented beverages made from malt with an alcohol content of more than 0.5% as well as beer mix drinks. Non-alcoholic beer is excluded here but shown as an aggregated part of soft drinks in the non-alcoholic drinks category. Globally, Anheuser-Busch InBev, Heineken and Carlsberg constitute the most important companies in this sector. The market for beer is structured into off-trade sales (in stores) and on-trade sales (in bars, restaurants etc.). Statista values off-trade sales at retail prices and on-trade sales at purchasing prices to the on-trade establishments. Additional markups for hospitality services are therefore not taken into account.
