In that edition of the tournament, Australia went on to secure its sixth World Cup title, beating hosts India in the final. Despite India falling at the final hurdle, a record 1.25 million spectators were in attendance, which exceeded the previous attendance record at an International Cricket Council event by over 200 thousand.
