According to a survey conducted among international tourists who visited the metropolitan area of the Italian city of Florence from August 2018 to July 2019, most of them travelled there for its artistic and cultural heritage. In fact, interviewees that claimed so accounted for approximately 53 percent of all international tourists involved in the survey. As of 2018, four of the ten most visited Italian museums were based in Florence. In particular, the Uffizi Gallery registered more than two million visitors in 2018, being the third most visited Italian museum after the Colosseum and the archeological area of Pompeii.
