In the state of Kerala and Telangana,non-governmental organizations provided 100 percent of food to the people who were left high and dry due to the lockdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and even to the poor people who lost their livelihood. NGOs in nine states and union territories provided food to more than 75 percent of the needy people. In all, there were 13 states and union territories in which the NGOs outperformed the administrative governments in the act of feeding the necessary people. The government made provisions to ensure that NGOs and charitable organizations have an uninterrupted supply of food grains like rice and wheat at open market sales rates.
