Passenger car sales in the European Union by fuel type 2023
48.1 percent of new car registrations in the European Union (EU) were electrified to some degree in 2023. New registrations of battery electric vehicles increased by around 37 percent to reach some 1.5 million units, while diesel and plug-in hybrid electric registrations slumped. As of 2023, some 13.6 percent of newly registered passenger cars in the European Union were running on diesel, and 7.7 percent were fueled by petrol.
