Households with agricultural land ownership in Ghana 2018, by area
Agricultural land in Ghana occupied 157 thousand square kilometers of the country's total land area as of 2016. Overall, the constitution of Ghana gives local chiefs the power to manage much of the land through a number of customary tenure systems, thereby making them land ownership stakeholders who also distribute land and resolve disputes that arise from it.
In 2018, the share of rural households in Ghana that owned agricultural land in rural areas (61.3 percent) was nearly two times more than those in urban spaces (34.3 percent).
