The GGY of the real event online betting market dropped significantly at the start of 2020 as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, when many sporting events were canceled or postponed. Meanwhile, the GGY of the virtual events online betting market peaked at the start of the pandemic in 2020, with the highest GGY being recorded in April, likely due to the Virtual Grand National. Similarly, the gross gambling yield of the online eSports betting market also grew during the pandemic.
