Number of companies ending advertising activities with Johnny & Associates 2023
By the end of September 2023, around 33 companies in Japan had decided to end their advertising activities with celebrities managed by talent agency Johnny & Associates. Out of 65 companies that had advertised their products in cooperation with Johnny & Associates stars, 19 had stopped airing commercials, while 14 had decided not to renew their contracts.
In September 2023, Johnny & Associates, one of the largest and most influential talent agencies in Japan, acknowledged that its late founder had sexually abused minors over decades. The scandal sparked nationwide outrage.
