Centrica's employees 2020-2021, by segment

The British multinational utility company Centrica has employees working in various segments. Most of the company's 19.7 thousand workers employed in 2021 were in the British Gas segment. That same year, the company's Direct Energy segment had operations discontinued.

What is Centrica?

Centrica was formed in February 1997, following a split of British Gas plc and is focused mainly on gas production and gas sales. It still operates under British Gas in England and Wales, whereas sales in Scotland are processed under Scottish Gas. British Gas is one of the UK's so-called "Big Six" large legacy energy suppliers.

Financial performance

Following a review of its trading businesses, Centrica revised revenue performance figures for 2018 onwards. As a result, there was a notable decline in revenues generated between 2017 and 2018, with the company making 20.8 billion British pounds in 2020. Performance was especially affected by lower wholesale commodity prices and reduced production across oil and gas fields.
