This statistic considers connections with a downstream speed of 1 Mbit/s or higher as broadband connections. According to the source, urban communities are defined as areas with a population density of at least 500 inhabitants per square kilometer.
According to the source, the figures for 2009 were gathered according to a diffenrent methodolgy. This should be taken into consideration when basing trends on these figures. The numbers up to mid 2013 were published by BMWi. From the end of 2013 onwards, they have been published by BMVI.
