Commercial vehicles
Tata Motors dominated the domestic commercial vehicle market in India with a 37 percent share. The company also had the second leading share in terms of bus sales across the south Asian country. In 2021, around 569 thousand commercial vehicles were sold in India. Heavy trucks weighing over 25 metric tons, sold the maximum number of units among the different gross weight segments.
Gaining momentum
The growth in infrastructure projects combined with the BS VI standards release resulted in a pre-buying boost for the commercial vehicle sector. Due to the government’s payout to the contractors, the offtake in the commercial vehicle segment improved as well. The boost in the infrastructure projects over the coming months is likely to align well with the medium and heavy commercial vehicle segments.
