According to the data, the number of electric bicycles sold in Italy reached 295,000 units in 2018, growing by 5.4 percent compared to the previous year. In fact, this trend is projected to continue, with Italian sales of e-bikes forecast to grow by 2.7 percent between 2023 and 2029.
Who is using e-bikes?
The Italians most likely to use an an e-bike, including buying, hiring, and borrowing a bike, are between 35 and 44 years old, followed by 45 to 54 year-olds. Italians who are already cycling one to two days a week are most interested in buying or using an e-bike but interest is also relatively high among those who never cycle, compared to more regular cyclists. Electric bicycles may represent a valid solution to fight pollution and to act against global warming.
