Brazil: hectarage of planted sugar cane 2010-2020

The area planted with sugar cane in Brazil was forecasted to amount to approximately 8.5 million hectares in crop year 2019/2020. This figure has been continuously decreasing since crop year 2016/17, when the total planted area in the country reached more than nine million hectares. In turn, production of sugar cane was expected to reach nearly 643 million metric tons that year.
In addition to the production of sugar, this crop is also the main feedstock for ethanol fuel production in Brazil.
